Gagosian Spotlights Works by Takashi Murakami, Andy Warhol and More for Art Basel Online

The dealer’s most comprehensive online presentation yet.

Although the coronavirus pandemic has led to the cancellation of its physical editions, Art Basel continues to spearhead digital initiatives to provide a platform for its immense roster of international dealers. The second installment of Basel’s Online Viewing Rooms is now running until the end of June with over 200 galleries launching virtual presentations including David Kordansky Gallery, Acquavella and Gagosian.

Gagosian is presenting its most significant online sales exhibition yet. Artworks by modern and contemporary masters are digitally displayed through two separate online platforms: Gagosian Online and Art Basel Online. Although the curation for both sections is different, direct access is granted to anyone with an Internet connection.

The presentations include Takashi Murakami’s one of one, five-foot-tall Kiki sculpture which the Japanese artist unveiled in 2018, Sterling Ruby’s SP92 abstract artwork made using spray paint on synthetic canvas from 2014, and Andy Warhol’s sprawling, acrylic on canvas painting inspired by The Last Supper biblical story — considered to be one of very few entirely hand-painted works in the artist’s oeuvre.

To experience the presentation in its entirety, viewers will need to visit the websites of Gagosian and Art Basel. The works on Gagosian will rotate every 48 hours, for a total of five cycles.

In other art fairs, Photo Basel just launched its first virtual edition.
