White Cube Hong Kong Offers Unexpected "Encounters" in New Two-Part Project
Featuring the works of Antony Gormley, Sarah Morris, Eddie Peake and more.

White Cube Hong Kong has brought together works by the gallery’s represented artists with a new two-part project called “Encounter.” By highlighting the varied experiences of each artist and the development of different artistic methods, the project generates new dialogues between a range of artwork, calling forth new perspectives and understanding.
Organized into three sections, the first part includes paintings, sculptures, installations and works on paper. The second part comes together in collaboration with K11 Art Foundation and explores the encounter between culture and materials. Kicking off the first part of the show are works by Antony Gormley and Anselm Kiefer. Gormley’s sculptures, which investigate the relationship of the human body to space, are paired with Kiefer’s raw paintings — both attest to a shared struggle: what it means to be human.
Elsewhere in the gallery, Etel Adnan and Sarah Morris reflect on the nuanced approaches to abstraction. Each artist included on the first floor comes from varying regions and cultural contexts, yet reveal many similarities and shared concerns within their work. Finally, Cerith Wyn Evans, Eddie Peake and more provide a historical framework for contemporary British art in the viewing room.
