MADSAKI Transforms Rolex Watches Into Vibrant Silkscreen Prints

Available via Takashi Murakami’s Tonari no Zingaro shop.

Japanese contemporary artist MADSAKI has unveiled three new silkscreen prints via Tonari no Zingaro, Takashi Murakami Kaikai Kiki‘s official souvenir shop. The prints, which were temporarily suspended on the online shop, feature Rolex Daytona and GMT Master watches in the artist’s graffiti-inspired aesthetic.

MADSAKI turns pristine Rolex watches — which have become symbols of power and success — into imperfect forms. One Daytona timepiece receives a rainbow treatment, while its numbers and words bleed into the watch’s signature three subdials. MADSAKI illustrates the GMT-Master II with its arrow-tipped hand and rotatable 24-hour gradual bezel in a half-blue, half-red colorway. Like other MADSAKI works that critique mass culture, the watches are reinterpreted through thin lines and paint splatters in the artist’s raw style, transforming the luxury item into a piece removed from its original cultural meaning and value.

Beginning April 28 at 12 p.m. JST, the prints will launch on Zingaro’s site. The new editions will be available only in Japan.
