Daniel Arsham's Eroded 911 Porsche to Arrive in Hong Kong for First Time

An exclusive look at the artwork headed to Phillips’ 20th Century & Contemporary Art sale.

For the first time ever, Phillips auction house in Hong Kong will display Daniel Arsham’s Ash & Pyrite Eroded Porsche in collaboration with K11 MUSEA. Pursuing an “inquiry into the fate of humanity” that began with his Future Relic series, Arsham reimagines everyday objects as if they were unearthed from a futuristic archaeological dig. This time, the Porsche 911 receives his intricately crystallized erosions.

Paying tribute to one of the most acclaimed sports cars of all time, Arsham gives the two-door, rear-engined silhouette an ashy gray finish. Arsham designed the Porsche with volcanic ash, as if the car was witness to the devastating natural disaster. Delicate crystals are encrusted throughout, embedded into the hood, doors and along the sides and rear. Arsham explores reality and fiction, as well as destruction and creation, with his apocalyptic creation.

Ash & Pyrite Eroded Porsche will be showcased at K11 MUSEA’s Opera Theatre from April 30 to May 3, before being offered in Phillips’ upcoming 20th Century & Contemporary Art and Design Day Sale on July 9, 2020.

In other news, Daniel Arsham has joined Bamford Watch Department for its latest take on the Bulgari Octo Solotempo watch.
