teamLab BORDERLESS Will Reopen Later This Month

Implementing new visitor rules to prevent coronavirus spread.

teamLab released an official statement today stating that it will shutter its most visited BORDERLESS digital museum in Shanghai. The closure is a result of the COVID-19 outbreak as the city’s Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism continues to heighten precautionary measures against the COVID-19 outbreak.

The museum welcomed 2.3 million visitors within one year of opening back in 2018. It’s currently holding the attendance record for a single-artist museum. Art enthusiasts from over 160 countries and regions around the world visit the museum to explore its “world of ever-changing artworks without boundaries.” One of its more recent installations is the Forest of Resonating Lamps.

Once it reopens on March 27, teamLab BORDERLESS will implement new rules for visitors. Highlighted instructions include that visitors will need to wear a mask at all times, the staff will check the body temperature of visitors before entry, and ticket purchases can only be made through the museum’s official WeChat account.

Visit teamLab’s website for more details.
