Hauser & Wirth Will Bring Louise Bourgeois' Rare Drawings to Your Screen
Decades-spanning works on paper by the late, iconic French artist.

International art dealer Hauser & Wirth will soon launch its first-ever online exhibition revolving around the drawings of the late iconic French artist, Louise Bourgeois. Although she is widely known for her large-scale sculpture and installation art (mainly her towering spider sculptures), Bourgeois was also a prolific painter and printmaker. For this digital presentation, the gallery aims to shed light on the artist’s “inner psyche” through various works on paper she made using ink, watercolor, and pencil.
“The works in this online presentation articulate different states of Bourgeois’s emotional terrain: love, happiness, fear, anger, and despair, as well as self-affirmation and redemption. Though her drawings constitute a very separate practice from her sculptural work, they retain a similar tension, oscillating between figuration and abstraction,” said the gallery in a statement.
“Louise Bourgeois. Drawings1947 – 2007” coincides with Hauser & Wirth’s launch of Dispatches which is a new series of videos, online features, and experiences that virtually connects viewers to their artists. The exhibition will go live on Hauser & Wirth’s website on March 25. Check out select drawings above.
