A Look Inside Hajime Sorayama's "Sex Matter" and "T-Rex" Exhibitions
On view at NANZUKA and its “2G” studio now.

Acclaimed Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama has brought concurrent shows to NANZUKA’s main gallery space and “2G” studio at Shibuya Parco. His erotic portrayals of feminine robots continue to challenge social taboos, while his cyborg dinosaurs reflect the artist’s focus on individual movement and detailed form. Together, “Sex Matter” and “T-Rex” showcase Sorayama’s highly detailed and realistic style, which subverts traditional ideas of robots.
“Sex Matter” includes large-scale sculptures of feminine robots in sensuous forms along with a selection of 10 paintings that depict robots in intimate encounters, centered around the theme of the post-human body in relation to sex. With their lustrous sheen and curvaceous forms, the robots take on a life of their own.
Meanwhile, “T-Rex” features five new cast sculptures of a Tyrannosaurus rex alongside dinosaur robot paintings. The sculptures reference Sorayama’s 12-foot-tall aluminum T-Rex sculpture, part of the project called “SORAYAMA Space Park by AMKK,” located at Bangkok’s Central Embassy.
