Joakim Ojanen Crafts Quirky Ceramic Sculptures & Paintings for First Asia Show

Taking place at AISHONANZUKA in Hong Kong.

Swedish artist Joakim Ojanen is the next artist to display original works at Hong Kong-based gallery, AISHONANZUKA. Titled “A day in the woods,” the forthcoming presentation marks Ojanen’s first exhibition in Asia with the artist set to unveil new oil paintings, drawings, and ceramic sculptures featuring his whimsical characters. From a sculpture of a bee-like creature embracing its dog companion to a black and white drawing of droopy-eyed subjects balancing a pair of butterflies, the artist injects his twisted imaginings of his home country across the interdisciplinary works.

“At first glance, the artist’s deep emotions and sensations are directly reflected in original expressions that seem innocent, such as raw textures and expressive characters that can be seen in sculptures and paintings, and a unique color sense that puts them together,” described the gallery in a statement.

View select works above and then visit AISHONANZUKA’s website for further details. The exhibition will run through February 14 until March 15.

Elsewhere in art, MoMA will launch a monumental exhibition titled “Automania” that investigates 20th-century car culture.
