Taschen Presents 120 iPhone & iPad Works by David Hockney in New Book

Drawn from the window of his Yorkshire home.

Art book publisher Taschen has compiled 120 iPhone and iPad works by acclaimed British painter David Hockney in a book entitled David Hockney. My Window. After discovering the iPhone as an artistic medium in the Spring of 2009, Hockney drew scenes from the window of his Yorkshire home in broad lines and vibrant colors. In 2010, the artist first used an iPad, which, with its large screen, enabled a more complex interplay of color, light, line and form.

From nighttime impressions and snow-covered branches to lilac morning skies and the arrival of spring, each image captures the passage of time in fascinating detail. Arranged by the artist in chronological order, the works document moments that are beautiful in their present existence yet always fleeting. Hockney details rain drops on windowpanes, reflections on glasses, the changing colors in the sky and the distant lights at night, revealing his poetic interpretation of everyday objects and landscapes.

Take a look inside David Hockney. My Window in the images above. Available in an edition of 1,000, the book will release next month on Taschen’s website for $2,000 USD each.

In related news, David Hockney has unveiled his 1975 painting My Parents and Myself for the first time at the National Portrait Gallery.
