Austin Lee Crafts Sculptural 'STUMP' Seating Objects With Case Studyo

Arriving red, yellow and blue versions.

Following his curation for “Good Pictures” at Jeffrey Deitch’s New York galleries, New York-based artist Austin Lee returns with a new collaboration with Case Studyo. The partnership features a series of neon-colored seating objects called STUMP. The sculptural furniture items were crafted out of reinforced fiberglass and outfitted with rubber coated, soft foam tops. Each one measures 70 by 50 by 36 centimeters and arrive in yellow, red and blue editions of 10 with four artist proofs per color.

“New-York based artist Austin Lee inhabits a surprisingly tangible digital dream world. In his work, paintings and sculptures present an otherworldly experience. For Lee, there are very few boundaries, whether between the real and imaginary or the digital and physical world,” said Case Studyo in a statement. “For his collaboration with Case Studyo, the artist offers his take on the most basic of seating objects: the stump. Lee’s ‘Stump’ is an indefinable object, both in form as in function; playful and simple yet deliberate and complex. Truly a conversation piece, the edition is an example of a new way of designing usable objects with virtual reality.”
