Cleveland Cavaliers Welcome Daniel Arsham Home as Inaugural Creative Director

The Cleveland-born artist is brought on to elevate the team’s visual identity.

World-renowned artist Daniel Arsham has just been appointed as the first-ever Creative Director of the Cleveland Cavaliers. This news arrives shortly after the NBA announced that the upcoming 72-game 2021-2022 season will be commencing on December 22nd.

Most notably known for his ability to bend genres through his contemporary design language, Arsham, instead of being called upon to help his hometown franchise to gain more numbers in the winning column, will be stepping in to polish up Cavs’ visual brand identity. This includes putting his creative expertise to use and applying his skills to upcoming court designs as well as crafting new apparel and on-court uniforms. Additionally, he will also assist with efforts in redesigning several public courts throughout Cleveland, and give input when needed for the NBA team’s graphics and video content.

Being that Arsham has gained notoriety within the realms of streetwear and pop culture through his solo exhibitions and partnerships with the likes of Pharrell, Porsche, Dior, Uniqlo and Pokemon, among others, he has a keen understanding of what makes collaborative projects special and he intends to bring that same mentality to this new role. Limited edition drops, partnerships with other artists, and capsule collections from Arsham are all expected to see their way into the market over the coming months, so stay tuned as we receive more information regarding their official launch dates.

Speaking on this partnership, Arsham states, “From the rushing waters of Chagrin Falls, to the pizza at Geraci’s and autumn in the Metroparks – Cleveland is a place that has heavily influenced me throughout my life, no matter where my life has led me. The Land is a part of me.”

For other art-related news, the Guggenheim and HUGO BOSS just released a collaborative hoodie.
