Watch Hayao Miyazaki Freehand Sketch Ghibli Museum's Newest Signboard

Revamping Mugi Wara Boshi Cafe’s takeout corner.

A video has just come out showing the legendary Hayao Miyazaki at work. In the clip, Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki has been asked by Tokyo‘s Ghibli Museum, Mitaka to redesign the hot dog and ice cream sign for the museum’s Mugi Wara Boshi Cafe (Straw Hat Cafe).

After the museum director asks for a revamped sign that reflects the sweet items on the new menu, Miyazaki wastes no time in getting to work, freehand sketching a completely new design on paper. The end result is a sign that still keeps the ice cream cone motif, but now incorporates whimsical little characters along with a name change — “Wara Wara & Ice Cream.” Fans of Miyazaki’s work will not want to miss the rare occurrence in the video above.
