Renowned Artists Design Plates to Support Coalition for the Homeless

Purchasing one plate will feed 75 homeless and hungry New Yorkers.

New York’s Coalition for the Homeless—the nation’s oldest advocacy organization helping homeless men, women, and children—has teamed up with 50 renowned artists to create limited edition porcelain plates. Artists who have contributed original designs for the charity initiative include  Ed Ruscha, Cecily Brown, Nina Chanel Abney, Sarah Sze, Tauba Auerbach, Lorna Simpson, Lisa Yuskavage, Maurizio Cattelan, and Glenn Ligon, among many others.

Highlighted designs include Yoshitomo Nara’s plate featuring the Japanese artist’s signature, child-like character, Jenny Holzer’s variant that portrays the word “Protect” in script, a colorful composition featuring abstract elements by Eddie Martinez, a vivid design by Nina Chanel Abney spotlighting her geometric subjects and Maurizio Cattelan’s option that depicts a gold brush covered in flies.

The plates are produced in limited editions of 175 and will be available for $175 USD apiece starting November 16 on Coalition for the Homeless’ website. Money raised from the sale of the plates will go towards providing food, crisis services, housing and other critical aid to thousands of homeless and at-risk people a day.
