William Strobeck, David Lynch & More Reimagine agnès b.'s Iconic Snap Cardigan

As part of a group photography show in NYC.

Though fashion designers have long sought artists for inspiration for their collections, the opposite also rings true with the launch of a momentous group exhibition entitled “PHOTOGRAPHERS … ARTISTS AND THE SNAP CARDIGAN.” The driving force of the show is agnes b.’s classic snap cardigan, a fashion item that has sparked a series of works by renowned interdisciplinary artists spanning Juergen Teller, David Lynch, William Strobeck, Ryan McGinness, Martha Cooper, Cheryl Dunn, and many more.

Altogether, the presentation celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Snap Cardigan with over 70 photographers having contributed work to the inaugural exhibition which was held at the Centre Pompidou back in 1996. From Strobeck’s work portraying Marilyn Monroe clad in the cardigan in his ubiquitous living room to an obscure close-up portrait by Lynch, agnès b. invited the participating artists to capture the essential apparel piece to their liking.

Preview select works from the upcoming show above. The exhibition will be on view from February 8 until March 1 at the address below.
