Steve Harrington, Parra & More Explore Anthropomorphism at MIMA

“ZOO” features works of animals given human-like qualities.

The MIMA Museum in Brussels is holding an exhibition, entitled “ZOO,” featuring the works of 11 international artists. With site-specific installations and paintings, the group show invites artists — who often merge human-like characteristics with those of animals — to explore anthropomorphism in relation to pop culture and emerging media.

“ZOO” revolves around the idea that the “anthropomorphic image in the media expresses a collective reality that is often shared unconsciously.” Highlights of the exhibition include a sculpture of Steve Harrington’s Mello dog character, works by Parra featuring his signature Parra Bird and a drawing of Todd James’ animated figures. Elsewhere, an entire room is filled with Egle Zvirblyte’s wall paintings and installations, while a vast mural showcases Pablo Dalas’ graffiti-inspired work.

Take a look at select works from “ZOO” in the slideshow above and head over to MIMA’s website for more information on the show. The exhibition will open on January 31 and run until August 30.
