Martin Laforêt to Hold First-Ever Solo Exhibition in London

Featuring ten limited-edition objects in concrete, oak & bronze.

French artist Martin Laforêt will hold his first-ever solo exhibition at London’s Carpenters Workshop Gallery later this month. Entitled “Inside Out,” the show explores the nature of materiality with ten limited-edition objects that blend concrete with oak and bronze.

“Inside Out” features Laforêt’s bronze collection that was completed using a lost-wax casting technique. Concrete moulds form the base of the objects, acting as part of the pieces by blending seamlessly into the designs. Elsewhere, the relationship between oak and concrete give monumental lamps and a coffee table their unique color and character.

“My practice moves simultaneously between cast and mould, lending a poetry to the contrasting materials and preserving the intimate relationship between them,” Laforêt explains. “It allows you to see the fill and the void, the inside and the outside, the positive and the negative.”

Check out select pieces from the exhibition above. “Inside Out” will run from January 30 to April 30.
