Daniel Arsham Reimagines Iconic Busts in New Large-Scale Eroded Sculptures

As part of an upcoming Galerie Perrotin exhibition entitled “Paris 3020.”

Daniel Arsham is kicking off 2020 with a packed exhibition schedule. The New York-based artist’s first stop is at Galerie Perrotin in Paris for an upcoming show entitled “Paris 3020.” The presentation will feature a range of eroded large-scale sculptures inspired by classical busts, friezes, and antiquity gleaned from museum collections including molds and scans from the Réunion des Musées Nationaux — “a 200-year-old French molding atelier that reproduces masterpieces for several of Europe’s major encyclopedic museums,” as per a press statement by Perrotin.

Altogether, the soon-to-be-displayed body of work is an extension of the artist’s ongoing Fictional Archaeology series that looks to “compress time, at once referencing the past, informing the present, and reaching towards a crystallized future” throughout a range of historical objects.

Check out select sculptures to go on show at Galerie Perrotin from January 11 until March 21.
