Bram Bogart's Thickly Painted, Textural Works to Take Over London's White Cube Gallery

Showcasing the artist’s signature style of ‘building.’

White Cube London is presenting the works of late Belgian artist Bram Bogart. The solo exhibition will explore the sculptural qualities of Bogart’s paintings produced between 1959 and the mid-1990s.

Bogart created expressive, three-dimensional paintings through a process of ‘building.’ He focused on paint as a physical matter and recognized the medium’s material possibilities. Working as an abstract artist, he explored how the “‘script’ of a painting or the ‘non-repetitive element of rhythmical brush strokes’ could imbue abstraction with meaning.” His thickly painted, coagulated surfaces reveal how paint can be pushed, drawn or pulled across the canvas, shedding light on on the physical aspect of painting.

Elsewhere in art, KAWS’ set of nine tondo prints from his THE NEWS series is live on Artnet’s website now.
