Carsten Höller Explores "Reproduction" with Massive Installations at Copenhagen Contemporary

Unveiling new biology-based playscapes.

Copenhagen Contemporary will soon launch a major solo exhibition of works by Carsten Höller. Entitled “Reproduction,” the renowned German-Belgian artist will unveil new biology-based playscapes throughout the installation. The artworks presented in the exhibition range from earlier pieces to new site-specific works that touch upon the theme of reproduction — “nature’s ability to create and recreate itself,” as per the museum.

Höller is widely-recognized for his larger-than-life sculptures that merge elements from playgrounds, zoos, and amusement parks with scientific experiments. His pieces include whimsical interpretations of merry-go-rounds, roller coasters, as well as salt baths that challenge viewers’ perception of these chosen objects, structures, and destinations.

“Reproduction” will be on view at Copenhagen Contemporary from September 28 to April 13, 2020. Check out select works above.

In other dynamic presentations, Henry Chalfant will display his photos of legendary graffiti writers at The Bronx Museum of Art as part of a major survey entitled “Art vs. Transit.”
