The Annenberg Space for Photography Will Examine Cultural and Political Barriers

Los Angeles‘ Annenberg Space for Photography will debut an ambitious exhibition next month, “W|ALLS: Defend, Divide, and the Divine.” The photographic show will include works from over 70 artists, examining the cultural, social, political and physical implication of walls.

The exhibition will include six sections: Delineation, Defense, Deterrent, The Divine, Decoration and The Invisible. Curated by Dr. Jen Sudul Edwards of the Mint Museum in North Carolina, “W|ALLS” will include photographs from around the world, with subjects including the India-Pakistan border, Pope Francis’ visit to Jerusalem’s Western Wall and the fall of the Berlin Wall, among others.

Annenberg also recently debuted a public art installation titled Light the Barricades by Candy Chang and James A. Reeves. The works will be on view at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica, Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles in Exposition Park until September 22, after which they will be displayed together again at the “W|ALLS” exhibition.
