Banksy Repurposes EU Customs Gate for Anti-Brexit 'Keep Ou' Installation

Showcasing at the RA’s 251st Summer Exhibition.

Banksy has returned to London’s Royal Academy annual Summer Exhibition with an installation titled Keep Ou, a repurposed and graffitied EU arrivals gate from Heathrow airport.

The words “KEEP OUT” are painted boldly onto the shuttered gate and sees Banksy’s signature rat steal the “T,” using it as a pick to crack a lock. The anti-Brexit installation is showcased in the 251st Summer Exhibition, which has been curated by British painter Jock McFadyen.

McFadyen’s curation sees works from the likes of Jeremy Deller, Anselm Kiefer, and Paula Reg and many of the artworks showcasing at the RA’s Summer Exhibition will be up for sale, with the proceeds going towards the Academy’s art school. Banksy’s Keep Ou continues from last year’s piece Vote to Love, which altered a “Vote Leave” campaign placard featuring a red heart-shaped balloon and was priced at £350M GBP — mocking Boris Johnson’s claim that the UK gives the EU £350M GBP a week, which was a slogan that was later plastered on buses around London by the Leave Campaign.

Take a look at Banksy’s Keep Ou in the gallery above and check it out for yourself at London’s Royal Academy from June 10 to August 12.
