Stickymonger Unveils First-Ever Hong Kong Exhibition
Titled “Parallel Universe.”

While artists like the late Tetsuya Ishida have been known to paint impressions of grim realities, others have brought their paintings to places otherworldly. One such artist is Stickymonger, a South Korean New York-based painter whose works span paintings, giant vinyl murals and window displays. Presented via the creative agency UNVEIL LIMITED, the artist is exhibiting her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, titled “Parallel Universe.”
Stickymonger is known for painting images of dreamlike universes that examine tensions between dark and light, fear and innocence as well as femininity and anxiety. Her style is heavily influenced by her younger years in South Korea spent in a home situated by a family-owned gas station. Much of her childhood would be spent playing under encroaching shadows of big petroleum drums that sat next to black reflections of oil puddles. Stickymonger works often display round-eyed animated figures that appear to be melting, offering a portal into her ominously peculiar world.
“Parallel Universe” will present new paintings, various installations and other pieces done in digital media. Signature motifs like depictions of girls with haunting wide-eyed gazes and introspective expressions of childlike innocence will be a recurring narrative.
