"MURAKAMI vs MURAKAMI" Exhibition in Hong Kong to Display Over 60 Pieces
Including the 4.5-meter-high sculpture “The Birth Cry of a Universe.”

Tai Kwun Contemporary is offering Hong Kong an intimate look at the works of Takashi Murakami with “MURAKAMI vs MURAKAMI” — a large-scale exhibition featuring over 60 pieces from the Japanese artist.
Curated by Oslo’s Astrup Fearnley Musset Director Gunnar B. Kvaran and Tai Kwun Head of Art Tobias Berger, “MURAKAMI vs MURAKAMI” will take over the entirety of Tai Kwun with an immersive setup. Showcasing a diverse selection of paintings and sculptures — the 4.5-meter-high “The Birth Cry of a Universe,” his joyful flower-themed images and his pensive Enso artworks — the program will also display a number of the celebrated artist’s iconic costume designs for the first time. Samples from his private art collection, video works and his wall and floor art round up the extensive exhibit.
Public programming and educational events such as anime and film screenings, guided tours, workshops and a public discussions with Murakami himself will be held by Tai Kwun Contemporary during its three-month run. Murakami products, Tai Kwun-exclusive items and other souvenirs will be available for purchase at a special pop-up store in F Hall Studio during the course of the exhibition.
Check out their official website for more information. “MURAKAMI vs MURAKAMI” runs from June 1, 2019 to September 1, 2019 at the JC Contemporary & F Hall Studio at Block 17. Tickets range from approximately $6 USD to $10 USD and will be available for purchase on Ticketflap starting May 8.
