Stickymonger Reveals New Paintings for Takashi Murakami's Hidari Zingaro Gallery

Signaling the NYC-based artist’s first solo exhibition in Japan.

South Korean-born artist Stickymonger is widely-recognized for her large-scale murals made using hundreds of carefully installed vinyl stickers. Her subjects largely encompass adolescent female figures engaging in daily activities that draw parallels with the artist’s own personal life. Recently, the New York City-based creative has experimented with water-based spray paint on canvas works. A generous selection of these pieces will be displayed for her first solo exhibition in Japan.

Takashi Murakami’s Hidaro Zingaro Gallery in Tokyo will host the artist’s momentous presentation entitled “On a Clear Day.” From a vivid round-shaped painting entitled Busy With Doing Nothing that shows a subject laying on a bed of flowers to a monochromatic work dubbed Suck at Math which depicts a character using her finger to count apples on a window, the works for the exhibition are both whimsical and bewildering.

“The crisp borders and sticky blackness of vinyl stickers are replaced by an atmospheric, layered monochrome of spray-paint as Stickymonger continues to offer the viewer a portal into a world full of contradictions: as inviting as it is ominous, both delightful and disconcerting,” said the gallery.
