Ren Hang's Soul-Stirring Photography & Poetry Honored in Paris Solo Exhibition
Featuring over 150 works from the late photographer.

Late iconic photographer Ren Hang is currently being honored with a dynamic solo presentation at The Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. The Beijing-based artist took his own life in 2017 after suffering from cyclical depression.
The exhibition titled, “Love, Ren Hang,” will showcase over 150 archival photographs by Hang. These images offer a raw view of the late photographer’s visually moving practice spanning portraits of his mother, provocative snapshots of his close friends and photographs of nightlife in China. His prolific works have served as a form of commentary, touching on topics of self-identity and sexual freedom. In addition, the show also aims to highlight Hang’s overlooked poetry that is a major influence on his photographic work.
From one of his melancholic poems titled Gift:
Life is really one
Precious gift
But sometimes I feel that
It has been given to the wrong person
The “Love, Ren Hang” exhibition in Paris will run from March 6 to May 26. Take a look at select works above and then head to The Maison Européenne de la Photographie’s website to learn more.
