David Zwirner Launches Works by Legendary Cartoonist R. Crumb

Sketchbook pages and works on paper up for grabs.

David Zwirner will launch an online sale of archival pieces by legendary American cartoonist and past Supreme collaborator, R. Crumb. Entitled “R. Crumb: Mr. Natural and Drawings from the 1960s,” the sale will feature a rare selection of sketchbook pages and works on paper made by the artist nearly six decades ago. “Since the 1960s, sketchbooks have been a mainstay of Crumb’s practice, serving as a repository for his thoughts, ideas, and obsessions,” said Zwirner.

The sale coincides with the New York City gallery’s physical retrospective called “Drawing for Print: Mind Fucks, Kultur Klashes, Pulp Fiction & Pulp Fact by the Illustrious R. Crumb.” Organized by authoritative art critic Robert Storr, the presentation highlights delicate works on paper alongside draws, and comics pulled directly from age-old publications. The exhibition is currently on view until April 13.

View select works for purchase above and then head over to David Zwirner’s Online Viewing Room to see the entire collection.
