“Monsters, Manga & Murakami” Invade Musée en Herbe in Paris
Spotlighting Takashi Murakami’s very rare ‘Inochi Doll.’

In 2004, Takashi Murakami unveiled one of his most significant works: the Inochi. The figurative sculpture was inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s original designs for the movie A.I. and centers upon the motif of a robot child. Around the early 2000s, Murakami teamed up with Medicom Toy to create small-scale replicas of the original piece. The collaborative, Inochi Dolls featured the character wearing a uniform and book bag. They were extremely limited and featured single color editions in five distinct options.
Now, the action figures are included in a momentous group exhibition entitled “Monsters, Manga & Murakami” at the Musée en Herbe in Paris, France. These editions are displayed alongside original manga boards and other pop culture objects. “While chasing monsters, you will learn more about the links between traditional Japanese art, legends and contemporary art,” said Galerie Perrotin in a statement.
