MoMA to Close over Summer 2019 for Major Renovation
Sacrificing revenue to spotlight more overlooked artists.

The Museum of Modern Art will close its doors for summer 2019. The impending shut down of the institution is to pave way for renovations that will see 40,000 square feet of gallery space added to the Midtown establishment in New York City.
Starting June 15 until October 21, the MoMA renovation will aim to include more experimental programs with a focus on spotlighting underrepresented artists of various ethnic backgrounds and mediums. Inaugural exhibitors include progressive Japanese photographer Shigeru Onishi and Haitian painter Hervé Télémaque, as per the New York Times.
Furthermore, the museum’s collections on the second, fourth and fifth floors will be completely revamped by 2022. Not to mention, the renovation will also include the launch of a new store and extended museum hours.
