Alife & Brooklyn Museum Honor Artist Faith Ringgold with Black History Month Collab

A capsule collection spotlighting Ringgold’s iconic ‘The United States of Attica’ artwork.

In light of Black History Month, Alife is partnering with the Brooklyn Museum on a special capsule collection that pays homage to Faith Ringgold. The Harlem-born artist is an impassioned, gender equality and civil rights activist. She’s widely recognized for her oil paintings on unstretched canvas and posters that raised awareness for issues on race and violence. Ringgold’s iconic The United States of Attica (1971-1972) poster is the highlight of the collaboration that is comprised of a shirt and sweatshirt.

“Ringgold created the piece in response to the prisoner’s rebellion at Attica Correctional Facility in upstate New York in 1971 where prisoners who were non violently protesting prison conditions at the time were met with violence from the police force, leading to national news coverage,” said Alife of the poster.

The collection will soon be available at the Brooklyn Museum. Head over to Alife’s website to learn more. In other art stories, Doug Aitken’s mirrored installation is now open for viewing at the Swiss Alps.
