Takashi Murakami to Show Work Alongside Father and Brother in Upcoming Group Show

Keeping things in the family.

Takashi Murakami recently took to Instagram to announce an upcoming exhibition that will feature work created by himself, his father Fukujuro Murakami and his younger brother Yuji Murakami. This will be the first-ever father and son exhibition between the three artists, and it will be presented by Takashi Murakami’s own Kaikai Kiki Gallery.

The exhibition, titled “Rhapsody of a Foolish Family: Fukujuro, Takashi, and Yuji Murakami,” is happening in celebration of Good Timing Club, an art book produced by Fukujuro Murakami. Fukujuro is currently 85 years old. During his career as a taxi driver, he often produced artwork in his spare time. Today his sons are both established artists – Takashi in particular gaining massive mainstream attention.

“The Murakami family I belong to has its own story, but it’s not particularly a messy one,” says Takashi Murakami in the exhibition statement. “As far as drama goes, it’s pretty thin. One thing that sets us apart from other families, however, is that we produce a tremendous number of artworks between us.

Murakami’s Instagram post also announces a concurrent exhibition at his Animanga Zingaro gallery space, which will solely feature works by Fukujuro Murakami.

“Rhapsody of a Foolish Family: Fukujuro, Takashi, and Yuji Murakami” will take place from December 23 until January 30 at KaiKai Kiki Gallery, and “Fukujuro Murakami” will take place from December 23 until January 18 at Animanga Zingaro. View both addresses below.
