Matt Gondek Brings Action-Packed Paintings to LA's Avenue des Arts

“CONTROL” is the artist’s largest exhibition to date.

After holding his “Growing Pains” exhibition at Avenue des Arts in Hong Kong last year, Los Angeles-based artist Matt Gondek returns with his first solo show at Avenue des Arts’ U.S. gallery space this month.

Showcasing his biggest and most personal exhibition to date, “CONTROL” showcases the journey Gondek has been through to get to this point of being in control. After a year of personal and professional growth, Gondek brings a more serious and darker tone to his work. Through 13 new paintings and larger than life sculptures, Gondek reflects on how he has regained control of his life, while celebrating a new chapter of it.

Incorporating clean lines, bright colors and references to comic books, cartoons and video games in his work, Gondek brings an element of storytelling to his signature graphic style and depiction of deconstructed pop icons. In his painting ‘Power Struggle Page 1,’ seen below, the artist incorporates other street artists’ graffiti tags into the background of his work, while drawing from punk rock and comic book inspirations. While “CONTROL” delves into darker themes, the artist continues to imbue his action-packed imagery with energy and life.

Take a look at select works from the upcoming exhibition at Avenue des Arts in Los Angeles in the gallery above and RSVP to the show here. “CONTROL” is on view from November 16, 2019 to January 11, 2020.
