Devon DeJardin's Eerie 'Guardians' Portraits See First Solo Gallery Show

Reminiscent of iconic cubist works.

Emerging artist Devon DeJardin currently has his first major solo show on display at the former Taschen building in Los Angeles. Curated by New contemporary art dealers Coates and Scarry, the exhibition titled “Guardians” features a series of drawn and painted portraits in an eerie mix of dark grays and blacks and vibrant jewel tone color schemes.

DeJardin is a completely self-taught artist with no formal art education, leading to a unique approach that’s based on an intuitive process he chalks up to “trial and error.” The artist is becoming known for his use of found materials, such as old T-shirts, during his painting process to create the smudged effect his work often carries.

The figures in each piece echo cubism, often featuring geometric shapes like bold triangles and circles as facial features. An uneasy feeling is emitted through their large scale and off-kilter facial proportions.

“Guardians” is currently on display until November 24 at the address below.
