Daniel Arsham & Case Studyo Unveil Two-in-One 'ERODED SWEATSHIRT' Sculpture Edition

The porcelain artwork also serves as a lamp.

New York-based artist Daniel Arsham took to Instagram earlier today to reveal a brand-new porcelain artwork titled ‘ERODED SWEATSHIRT’ (31.75 cm x 35.56 cm) made in collaboration with Case Studyo. The detailed hoodie — complete with wrinkled sleeves, elasticated cuffs and drawstrings around the hood — also serves as a lamp when it is plugged in.

‘ERODED SWEATSHIRT’ comes in a box detailing the construction of the sculpture, featuring an illuminated base, translucent porcelain exterior, and hollow hood. Arsham’s signature “erosion” marks are found on the hoodie’s front and back, allowing the light to illuminate through the cracks in the sweatshirt, as well as the hood’s empty space, to create an ominous glow.

Arriving in a limited quantity of 150, ‘ERODED SWEATSHIRT’ will go on sale November 8 at 9 a.m. EST on Case Studyo’s website.

Arsham also announced via Instagram that he will be donating $100,000 USD from the sale of his works to create a new scholarship platform for students at The Cooper Union. “I was only able to study Art in NYC because I received a full-tuition scholarship to Cooper Union. It changed my life and led me on this path,” Arsham wrote. “The time I spent there highly influenced my thinking and the work I make today would not be possible without the rigorous education I received. I look forward to seeing the work these students will produce in the future!”

In case you missed it, HYPEBEAST spoke with Daniel Arsham about taking over Selfridges’s Corner Shop area for an installation-meets-store.
