Josh Sperling will soon launch his third exhibition with Galerie Perrotin. Entitled “Big Time,” the show will take place at Perrotin’s New York City space. For the presentation, Sperling has created a vivid body of work, wholly comprised of newly shaped canvases. Part painting and part sculpture, the works emphasize texture and movement with seemingly endless swirls, squiggles, and spontaneous compositions that appear as minimalist landforms when viewed straightforward. Aside from the unconventional structure of the pieces, the grand scale of several pieces is also quite mesmerizing.

“‘Big Time,’ the work from which the exhibition takes its name, is one of his grandest gestures to date, both in scale and scope, as he enlists the clustering strategy of his ‘composites’ to include all the shapes in his arsenal,” said Perrotin in a statement. “It is an amalgam, a compendium of forms where echoes of works past can be found, as well as some indication of what compositional prowess Sperling has in store for future work.”

Tour the exhibition in the slideshow above and then head over to Perrotin’s website to learn more. “Big Time” will run from January 12 until February 16. Elsewhere in art, acclaimed photographer Ari Marcopoulos will soon launch concurrent exhibitions at Fergus McCaffrey’s Tokyo and New York City galleries.
