Banksy Artwork Honoring Victims of Terrorism Robbed in Paris

The 2015 mural was painted on a door of the Bataclan venue.

A Banksy artwork that was painted on a door of Paris’ renowned Bataclan theater has been stolen on Friday night. The artwork paid tribute to the 90 people that were killed during a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in November 2015. The white stenciled piece portrayed a gloomy girl clad in a hooded coat. According to BBC, “a group of hooded individuals armed with angle grinders” ostensibly sliced through the door and took the artwork away on a truck. The suspects are still at large.

Following the theft, the Bataclan venue tweeted:  “We are today filled with a deep sense of indignation… Banksy’s work, a symbol of recollection and belonging to all: locals, Parisians, citizens of the world, has been taken from us.”

This isn’t the first time that Banksy’s artwork has been stolen. Last June, the artist’s Trolley Hunters print was robbed from the site of a Toronto exhibition of Banksy’s work.
