Gagosian Spotlights Giant Still Lifes by Late Pop Art Icon Tom Wesselmann

Large-scale collage paintings of everyday objects.

The late American artist and influential Pop Art pioneer, Tom Wesselmann, is the subject of a new exhibition at Gagosian’s Beverly Hills gallery space in Los Angeles, California. Entitled “Still Lifes, Standing Still Lifes, and Bedroom Paintings,” the institution is currently spotlighting archival works from 1963 to 1983 such as large-scale canvases that are shaped to the outline of the everyday objects they portray. Moreover, assemblage pieces crafted using shifting panels of varying gadgets are on display at the space. Throughout his extensive career, Wesselmann specialized in creating collages that incorporated found materials such as sketches and parts of advertisements he collected in the New York City subway, as per Gagosian.
