Keiichi Tanaami & Oliver Payne's "Perfect Cherry Blossom" Exhibit Arrives in Japan

At the NANZUKA gallery in Tokyo.

In 2012, renowned British artist-filmmaker and Supreme collaborator Oliver Payne teamed up with legendary Post-War Japanese artist Keiichi Tanaami on a collaborative exhibit called “Perfect Cherry Blossom.” Following a residency at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, the show is now being hosted at the NANZUKA gallery in Tokyo, Japan.

The partnered showcase features new and archival works by the artists. Tanaami’s paintings of humanoid characters, monsters, and ancient deities clash beautifully against Payne’s collage works that portray bullet hell stickers inspired by the Japanese video game DonPachi. Additional works include colored drawings and silkscreen pieces made by both artists.

View the slideshow above and visit NANZUKA’s official website to learn more. The show is currently on view up until April 21. Not long ago, cavempt made a limited collection of T-shirts paying homage to Tanaami and Payne’s “Perfect Cherry Blossom” exhibit.
