Jeff Koons Is a Huge Lil Uzi Vert Fan

“Little Uzi is very poetic.”

Ahead of his Easyfun-Ethereal exhibition at the Gagosian in New York, controversial American artist Jeff Koons sat down with The Guardian to discuss the exhibit itself as well as a range of other influences. Talking about the works on display, Koons describes the images — which were produced for the Guggenheim in the ’90s — as “based in photomontage, a kind of surrealistic pop. I think the images are dynamic. They’re wet-into-wet paintings, there’s a sensuality about them.”

Elsewhere, Koons goes on to discuss his thoughts on criticism (“I never think about it”) and some of his influences, including Lil Uzi Vert, who he listens to whilst doing weights in the gym. “Little Uzi is very poetic, and he’s able to speak about a kind of microcosm that actually represents one community that can be looked at as a whole. I think it’s very pop; it’s very connecting. I just think it’s brilliant.”

Easyfun-Ethereal opens on March 10 and is set to run until April 21. For more art news, Damien Hirst recently spoke out about his “The Veil Paintings” series.
