KAWS' Calvin Klein Ad Disruption Has Just Sold for $127,000 USD

A handful of rare works of art have just been auctioned off at SBI Art Auctions Harajuku. Amongst the number of artists’ work going under the hammer, a very special KAWS screenprint lithograph from the late ’90s has just sold for close to $127,000 USD.

The piece of art, which is reminiscent to KAWS‘ early subvertising graffiti work on New York bus shelters, was estimated to fetch somewhere between ¥3,000,000 JPY – ¥6,000,000 JPY (approximately $26,500 USD – $53,000 USD). Photographer Ryan Lindow was able to attend the auction, and catch all the action as the moc-Calvin Klein ad featuring model Christy Turlington closed out in just under four minutes. The sales from SBI Art Auctions Harajuku brought in a total of ¥367,356,000 JPY (approximately $3,243,000 USD), and featured works from the likes of Yayoi Kusama, Hajime Sorayama, MADSAKI, Barry McGee, Banksy, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, and Gerhard Richter.

In other art news, Hebru Brantley is set to launch a limited edition ‘Boy On Rocket’ lithograph.
