See How a Paper Propmaker Crafts Fake Documents for Films

He’s made more bootleg documents than Frank Abganale Jr.

Ross MacDonald was once just an illustrator for various publications before leveling-up and becoming a master craftsman of paper props. Contributing to many film and TV properties, he puts much care into crafting fictional documents — some of which are sometimes only seen onscreen for mere seconds. He’s created tens of thousands of props for just Boardwalk Empire alone, and some of his most notable creations can be seen in Baby’s Day OutBook of Eli, and even National Treasure: Book of Secrets. While MacDonald can spend anywhere from days, to months on a single prop, he often has to create passports, travel documents, wanted posters, and the like.  Check out the video above, to see MacDonald crafting some props from his Connecticut workshop.
