Nobuyoshi Araki Spotlights 118 Rare Photographs in Singapore Exhibition
Exploring Araki’s relationship with his late wife Yoko.

Iconic Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki is the subject of a current exhibition entitled “Between Love & Death: Diary of Nobuyoshi Araki.” Organized by the Singapore International Photography Festival, the presentation spotlights 118 original photographs that relay the intimate relationship between Araki and his late wife, Yoko.
Beginning with Subway Love (1963) to Winter Journey (1990), the decades-long series of works encapsulate distinct memories of the artist’s extensive career; showcasing his erotic studio portraits, raw shots from his desolate patio in Tokyo with unabashed youths, and scratchy snapshots from Uganbochi series that call attention to Araki’s “failing right eye, like a portal to another world,” said the festival in a statement.
“Between Love & Death: Diary of Nobuyoshi Araki” is currently on view at the DECK Art Space in Singapore. The exhibition will conclude on December 9. In related news, take a look at this week’s list of best art drops.
