KAWS' Colossal 'CLEAN SLATE' Companion Spotlighted in Upcoming Phillips Auction
Standing 23-feet-tall and on display at Phillips NYC.

Phillips is set to launch its Evening Sale of 20th Century & Contemporary Art in November. Ahead of the auction, the art platform gives us an exclusive look at two highly-sought KAWS pieces that will be included. The highlight goes to the Brooklyn-based artist’s colossal CLEAN SLATE Companion sculpture that stands 23-feet-tall. The sculpture made its debut at Harbour City in Hong Kong and now has an estimated sale price of $900,000-$1,200,000 USD. “It is the highest auction estimate for any work by KAWS,” said Phillips. The sculpture is currently on display at Phillips’ plaza in New York City.
Accompanying CLEAN SLATE in the sale is another KAWS artwork, UNTITLED (FATAL GROUP), that is hitting the block at $700,000-$900,000 USD. It is also described as the highest auction estimate for a painting by the world-renowned artist. The piece portrays the characters from The Fat Albert Show with their heads embellished with KAWS’ signature XX motif.
View both works in the slideshow above and expect the Phillips sale to commence on November 15. Elsewhere in art, Nick Knight will soon launch his “Still” exhibition in Tokyo at The Mass.
