Behind the Scenes of 'TIME' Magazine's “Guns In America” Cover Shoot

Featuring the work of visual artist, JR.

For TIME Magazine‘s “Guns in America” issue, the publisher looked to French visual artist JR to compose an image for the cover. As he was unfamiliar with the intricate controversies surrounding the topic of firearms in America, JR worked to combine the perspectives of various Americans from St. Louis, Washington, D.C., and Dallas. The project narrates the stories of gun owners, victims, veterans, hunters, competitive shooters, lawmen, and even the surgeons that stitch up the bullet holes. The cover took five months to complete, and TIME has provided a behind-the-scenes look at parts of the process.
