Gucci Unveils New Marina Abramović-Themed ArtWall

Advertising Maurizio Cattelan’s new exhibition.

After revealing a series of ArtWalls in Milan, New York, London and Hong Kong, Gucci has unveiled another large-scale mural dedicated to Marina Abramović. The new walls are a reference to “The Artist Is Present,” an exhibition curated by Maurizio Cattelan that takes its name from Abramovic’s 2010 work, one of her most celebrated performance pieces.

Abramović is not involved in the new exhibition, although her work has inspired Cattelan. By using the same title and a similar image in a new context, Cattelan hopes to begin a conversation about originality and copying. The Shanghai ArtWall is based around a photocall located in Las Vegas, which replicates the famous Hollywood Sign. ”The Artist Is Present,” curated by Maurizio Cattelan, will open at the Yuz Museum Shanghai on October 11.
