Bordalo II Casts Light on Human Pollution with Trash Animal Installation

The ecologic artist’s most ambitious project yet.

Portuguese activist and ecologic artist Artur Bordalo, popularly known as Bordalo II, unveiled his most ambitious installation yet. Dubbed Wild Wild Waste, the immersive project spans a whopping 10,000 square feet filled with his signature animals meticulously sculpted from trash. Made in collaboration with Zappos and global creative house Justkids, the artwork was on display during Life Is Beautiful Festival in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Bordalo is inspired by the rejected, the broken, the wasted, somehow our everyday; With the trash we refuse to be responsible for he creates a fantastic installation that is playful and, furthermore that question our relation to waste and our responsibility,” said Justkids curator Charlotte Dutoit.

Bordalo II’s extensive oeuvre is composed of sculptures and reliefs that he describes as Trash Animals. These large-scale works are predominantly crafted using plastics found in wastelands, dumpsters, abandoned factories, scrap yards and recycling centers, as per the organization.
