Muralist Peeta Introduces Italy’s Highly Technical Street Art Scene

With visits to Venice, Padua and Turin.

New Balance and HYPEBEAST present the last installment of our five-part The Local series featuring the latest 247 sneaker colorways. In this episode, we journeyed to Northern Italy to meet with graffiti artist and sculptor Manuel “Peeta” Di Rita who showed us the emerging street art scene in the historic cities of Venice, Turin and Padua. Peeta first got into the art scene sculpting marble as he grew up around the ornate designs of his neighborhood’s churches and museums before studying architecture in school in order to add 3-D elements to his work. Today, Peeta and his crew represent a unique style of street art known as anamorphism which appears to create depth and perspective from flat surfaces. Equipped in the comfy New Balance 247 Mid, and warm layers to shelter him from the cold, the artist took to the streets and schooled us on how the Italy’s very traditional art community is evolving to accept and embrace street art.

Watch the latest The Local video above and shop the New Balance 247 full collection on the official New Balance website for $90 USD.
