Iconic & Political Ai Weiwei Works on Display in Buenos Aires

Featuring some of the artist’s best known pieces.

After setting up a series of huge installations across New York last year, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has now erected more monumental sculptures in Buenos Aires. As well as these pieces, the exhibition — titled “Inoculation” — features some of the artist’s most well known work with photography and video.

The exhibition begins with Weiwei’s “Forever Bicycles” sculpture, which stands at the entrance to the city’s Fundacion PROA. Other notable works feature in the exhibition include “He Xie,” a piece made up of hundreds of porcelain crabs, and “Sunflower Seeds,” which consists of a huge amount of handmade porcelain seeds. As with all of Weiwei’s art, the exhibition has an important political element, most notable in the inflatable lifeboat that the artist created to confront the Mediterranean Refugee Crisis.

Take a look at some pictures from the exhibition above, with “Inoculation set to run from now until April 4. In other art news, Yoko Ono, Barbara Kruger and more have designed New York covers.
