Wonderwall Built a Garden Entirely out of Sneakers for Nike Air Max's 30th Anniversary

Blending futuristic design cues with traditional Japanese elements.

In March, Masamichi Katayama of acclaimed Japanese interior design firm Wonderwall built a sprawling, dry landscape garden in Tokyo’s National Museum. Visuals of the intricate installation have now surfaced, showcasing an array of Nike Air Max iterations on display as an homage to the 30th anniversary of the coveted silhouette. Titled Air Max Genealogy, the vibrant sneakers are beautifully juxtaposed against Katayama’s otherworldly structure swathed in white.

“The display captures the event’s overarching theme of Air Max Genealogy (and its story of revolution) by integrating futuristic movements with elements of Japanese tradition and culture,” said the design firm in a statement. Take a look at the installation above and view more projects at Wonderwall’s official website.
