The Traveling Egg-Shaped Gallery Needs $75,000 USD to Come to Life

Making the 3,000 mile journey from Guatemala City to L.A.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has announced its latest venture: an egg-shaped art gallery that will travel almost 3,000 miles from Guatemala City to Los Angeles with stops on the way. To bring the project to life, LACMA has set up a KickStarter page to raise the $75,000 USD needed. At the moment, NuMu (Nuevo Museo de Arte Contemporáneo) is based in Guatemala, and the gallery, built inside a 2.5 meters x 2 meters former drive-thru egg selling shop, is described as ”the world’s smallest contemporary art museum.” The idea behind the project is to take NuMu to new audiences in Guatemala, Mexico and Southern California, “fostering creative dialogues with diverse artistic communities” along the way. So far LACMA has raised $17,458 USD of its target from 128 backers. There are 24 days left for the project to raise the rest of the funding, and you can read more about it over on the KickStarter page.
