Daniel Arsham Heads to Seoul With "Crystal Toys"

Stuffed bears and more get the ‘Future Relic’ treatment.

Later this month, Daniel Arsham is bringing his signature Future Relic motif to Seoul as he presents “Crystal Toys” at the Korean outpost of Galerie Perrotin. Going in a slightly different direction than previous Future Relic showcases, “Crystal Toys” brings the archaeological look to the likes of stuffed teddy bears as Arsham crafts decaying, sculptural renditions of childhood favorites out of ash, amethyst, selenite, and quartz. The exhibition follows the release of Future Relic 07 — which imagined a Sony Walkman II and headphones excavated in 2079 — and Arsham’s “Hourglass” exhibit at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta back in March. Arsham and Alex Mustonen’s Snarkitecture also recently resurrected their massive ball pit The Beach installation in celebration of colette’s 20-year anniversary.

“Crystal Toys” opens May 25 and will remain on view through July 8.
